When talking about the best war movies of all time “Apocalypse Now” can’t be missing. This movie is from 1979, but still one of the best war movies!

The movie Apocalypse Now tells us the story of an U.S. Army Captain on a secret mission. It is the height of the war in Vietnam and the goal of Captain Willards mission is to seek and eliminate Colonel Walter Kurtz. The army says Kurtz has gone completly insane and that’s why he needs to be eliminated.

Saving Private Ryan

This is personally one of my favorite war movies. This movie appeared in 1998 starring actors like Tom Hanks and Matt Damon.

The movie begins with the Allied invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944. A Ranger Battalion under the command of Cpt. Miller fight there way through to secure the beach. In the fighting two brothers get killed. The mother of this two brothers is about to receive three grave telegrams, because antoher of her sons died earlier in New Guinea too. The US Army Chief of Staff finds out, that their is a fourth brother, Private James Ryan, and decides to find him and bring him back home to his mother. The Ranger Battalion and Cpt. Miller have a new mission…

Full Metal Jacket

This war movie from 1987 is sure one of the top movies of all time. It starts off with several young men who undergo Marine Corps basic training and later are shipped to Vietman. Joker, the main character, and the other new recruits all have a bad time dealing with their Drill Instructor Sgt. Hartman. But Joker makes it through and goes to Vietnam working as a combat journalist where he sees first-hand the horrors of war.

Schindler’s List

Well… when listing the best war movies of all times, we can’t miss out “Schindler’s List”. This movie from 1993 was directed by Steven Spielberg and with great actors like Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley it only can be a success.

Oskar Schindler is a greedy German businessman who doesn’t hesitate to use Jewish slave labor in his new factory. Schindler is essentially apolitical but knows how to get what he wants. Over time he is affected by the treatment of Jews and begins to protect the people who work in his factory…

Black Hawk Down

And the last top war movie that made it to this list is “Black Hawk Down”. This movie published in 2001 is based on the best-selling bookBest War Movies Of All Time about a mission in Somalia 1993. On October 3 of that year 100 U.S. Army Rangers were dropped into the capital city of Mogadishu to capture two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord. In a firefight between the Ranger and Soali gunmen two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters are destructed. The focus of this movie lies on the heroic efforts of many Rangers to get to the downed black hawks.

    The list is impressive.
    My favorite one is Full Metal Jacket. It has some awesome quotes and the acting is brilliant.
    What do you think about Mel Gibson’s last project- Hacksaw Ridge. Did you like it?
    I have to admit that it blew me away too!
    It includes some really stunning action scenes.

    These are all cool movies. I watched the trailers. By the way, wasn’t Oscar Schindler a real person who saved lots of Jews from the Holocaust? Is the slave labor part real also? I mean to ask, is the movie a history movie or a fictional history-based movie? I haven’t read much about Schindler to know.

      The story about Schindler is based on a true story, it all really happened. Schnidler’s list is a historical movie not a fictional and a must have seen 😉
